How To Play Life Stats
Tap the date box, pick your birthday and press Show my life stats. That is it. The page fills up with numbers about your life so far, and some of them keep counting while you watch.
You can tick Remember my birth date so the box is filled in next time. The date stays on your device only, and Forget me clears it in one tap. Want to check a friend, a pet or a grandparent? Press Try another date and enter theirs.
What Your Score Means
The big number at the top is how many days you have been alive. Here is what the rest of the cards show:
- Time alive. Your exact age in years, months and days, plus your total hours, minutes and seconds, counted from midnight on the day you were born.
- Laps around the Sun. Every birthday is one more trip around the Sun. A bar shows how far you are through your current lap.
- Distance traveled. Earth moves along its orbit at about 29.78 km every second, according to the NASA Earth Fact Sheet. That adds up to roughly 940 million km a year, and you have been riding along the whole time.
- Full moons. The NASA Moon Fact Sheet gives 29.53 days from one full moon to the next, so we divide your days by that.
- Heartbeats and breaths. These are estimates. Johns Hopkins Medicine says a healthy adultโs resting pulse is 60 to 100 beats a minute and adults at rest take 12 to 16 breaths a minute. We use the middle of each range, so treat these as fun ballparks.
- People on Earth. If you were born in 1950 or later, you see the world population in your birth year next to this year, using the United Nations World Population Prospects 2024.
There is no good or bad score here. A smaller number just means you have more milestones ahead of you.
Tips To Improve Your Birthday Plans
You cannot speed up time, but you can plan a better party. Check the milestone list for dates most people never notice:
- 10,000 days old lands a little after 27 years and 4 months.
- 1 billion seconds old comes a little after 31 years and 8 months.
- 1,000 weeks old arrives a bit after age 19.
Put the next one in your calendar and celebrate twice in the same year. Your friends will ask what the cake is for, and you will finally have a great answer.
Fun Facts About Life Stats
Earth does not travel in a perfect circle, so its speed changes a little through the year. The NASA fact sheet lists a top speed of 30.29 km per second and a slowest speed of 29.29 km per second. Your distance card uses the average, which is why it says โaboutโ.
Leap days are rarer than you might think. Years that end in 00 skip the extra day unless they divide evenly by 400. That is why 2000 had a February 29 but 1900 did not.
Your heart count is the wildest number on the page. Even at a calm 80 beats a minute, a heart beats over 40 million times a year without you asking it to.
